Mommy Muddling deals with messy stuff. Some messy stuff can be a lot of fun! Something that I’m getting messy in is bible journaling. I thought this would be a great space to explain to you, just in case you’re new to this, what bible journaling is and also share a couple of basic things you could use to get started journaling in your bible.

I didn’t start out this blog intending for bible journaling to be a part of it. I didn’t know how much this practice would become a part of my life and my therapy, not to mention deepening my relationship with God. At the time of writing this I am a relative beginner and I have found so much comfort, peace and life in taking time to focus more on the word and less on the world. So let’s get to the basics.

Bible journaling is the process of journaling in and creating within the pages of your bible. It’s a process. [You can really get the low-down here at Shanna Noel’s blog, she’s my hero, if you want to dig deeper.] This process can start with a devotional or prayer or by listening to worship music (or all of the above) and finding in that a verse or verses or song lyrics that you want to spend time devoting into. Then, as you focus on that, meditate on it, or let it seep in, you can let your creativity lead the way! The best, most useful tool to have to get started is a journaling bible. You can find a bunch of options on Amazon or via your favorite Christian book seller. But you don’t have to have one or if you don’t want to spend the money on one just yet you could use a notebook, sketchbook or any other kind of journal you might have on hand.

In addition to a journaling bible, I would recommend you have some good colored pencils (I love the Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils). Also, some pens that are made to limit bleedthrough are a must, like the ones linked here (these are just suggestions, these are not the only pens that will work and I won’t get paid anything if you decide to purchase those) and finally, definitely keep a pencil with an eraser handy. Depending on your comfort level you might also want to have some watercolors or watercolor pencils. I could go on and on about the many wonderful tools and supplies and extras that are super fun to work with, but truly, you only NEED the basics to get started. If you do want to check out some of my most favorite extras, click on that link in my sidebar to Illustrated Faith by Dayspring (it is an affiliate link). You will find a treasure trove of amazing bible journaling goodness right there! It’s, well, amazeballs.

With that I’ll leave you with a few photos to give you an idea of what I have been doing in my journaling bible. I hope you find it fun to look at and maybe even inspirational? This process has been so amazing for me personally as I work to manage mental health issues and to make my way through what I hope is the recovery phase from a severe episode of depression. Oh, don’t forget to follow Mommy Muddling on Instragram. I share a lot of my bible journaling fun there!
